To enable the main living spaces to take full advantage of the expansive windows, we relocated the kitchen and master bath toward the interior of the unit. In a condo with and fixed drain and vent stacks, this requires detailed planning and coordination. We succeeded so well in large part because we have past experience with dozens of units in the same building, so we were familiar with the building’s mechanical systems and inner workings.
A limited palette of materials used throughout the condo creates a sense of continuity that complements the open plan. The wide-plank floors are bleached walnut, sourced in Poland and hand-finished in Los Angeles. The kitchen countertops are quartzite with a pattern that had to be carefully considered, especially for details like the waterfall edge of the kitchen island.
