The remodel of this 1905 house in Washington Park focused on expanding the kitchen for a family with three young children.
Working with architect Margaret Menter and designer Colleen Knowles, we incorporated a modest addition next to the kitchen to accommodate a mudroom.
To open up the kitchen, the Schultz Miller crew had to move several existing beams and add new steel beams and heavier wood timbers, but the new kitchen and adjacent mudroom look like they’ve always been there.
Beyond the kitchen, the remodel touched almost every room in the house. In between the girls’ bedrooms, we installed a diminutive, mouse-hole-like arched door, and in the boy’s room, we built a ladder to a hideaway play loft.
