Perched high above 2nd Avenue in downtown Seattle is a gem of a collaborative effort between Schultz Miller and NB Design Group. Our task was to create a comfortable home for a newly relocated, soon to be retired couple from the East Coast.
As part of their downsizing exercise, the couple desired welcoming spaces with well-lit areas to display their prized art pieces, as well as hidden storage and private spaces, all within a limited amount of square footage. The solution was to tuck a multi-function room (home office/media lounge/guest bedroom) behind full-height display cases flanking both sides of a hidden pocket door. A set of bifold “flipper” doors conceals the desk cubby when not in use.
Stained white oak cabinetry is featured throughout, along with aged walnut flooring and durable quartzite counters. A custom recessed vent hood opens up spectacular mountain views to the west, while a pivoting pantry door is disguised as a part of the cabinetry.
