The homeowners weren’t parking cars in their garage, and their children wanted a fun indoor space for artwork and exercising, especially the daughter who loves gymnastics. So was born the Garage Gym, a playful space designed by architect Margaret Menter.
The open space has and plenty of room for tumbling and letting off steam. Steel beams easily support the weight of rings, ropes, and swinging kids. There’s a sink for cleaning up after art projects, and a half bath tucked behind a sliding chalkboard door. Plywood walls can handle balls being thrown at them.
A steel frame supports a wall of glass doors that open to the patio when the weather is nice and close when it’s cold and rainy out, and then the kids can be as loud as they want.
