Architect Tom Lawrence designed this contemporary home in response to the challenges and unique potentials of a site on the city’s Magnolia shoreline. Extensive piling and foundation work provide sturdy anchorage for a three-level residence that overlooks shipping lanes and brings the spirit of the sea indoors.
Douglas fir timbers and cedar siding were finished to weather naturally in the marine air. Interior designer Nancy Ralston chose muted colors and textures to complement the Puget Sound palette.
On the main level, the kitchen and dining room cross the long axis of the house, opening to ipe decks with views of the water below and garden above. Downstairs, three bedrooms face terraces of concrete pavers with guardrails finished in flame-sprayed zinc.
