The house was designed for a couple who enjoys making and displaying crafts and entertaining family and friends. It features a soaring multipurpose space and includes a detached garage/workshop with a studio apartment above it. Natural materials are used throughout, including Port Orford cedar, rift-sawn oak, and Amarosa limestone. The exacting finish details required precise work by the Schultz Miller crew.
A big leaf maple from the property produced stair treads, wood for the front door, the dining table, and other furniture and fixtures. The front door is a striking composition of maple planks and aluminum and steel elements that have been flame-sprayed with bronze and then sanded and patinated. The colorful door to the powder room is a “metal quilt” created by artist Arunas P. Oslapas.
