Yarrow Point Remodel

The remodel of Yarrow Point House on Lake Washington involved creating a more welcoming entry sequence, opening up the floor plan, reconciling previous remodels, and improving the visual coherence of the main interior spaces.

To create symmetry within the family room space, we removed the old staircase, which was off-center, and built a wider, grander staircase in its place. To support the new staircase, we had to cut spread footings into the existing basement slab.

To open up the kitchen, we removed two structural columns at the existing island and installed new structural steel beams that span the full length of the kitchen and are supported by new steel columns. We also bumped out the kitchen by five feet, extending it toward the lake.

We added a sitting room off an existing bedroom, enclosed the breezeway between the house and the garage to create a new mudroom and pantry, installed a new cedar shingle roof, and refinished the rear deck.

Pulling everything together are new cabinets, refinished hardwood floors, and white painted trim. The seamless result required creative collaboration between Schultz Miller building team and the Stuart Silk Architects design team from start to finish.
