We refinished the existing flooring and maintained the basic configuration of the original unit, but we removed and replaced the wall surfaces and ceiling. The new ceiling is dropped a mere 2 1/2 inches below the structural slab, just enough to accommodate new recessed cabinet lights, which require much less depth within the ceiling than standard fixtures. This shallow drop maintains the floor to ceiling views, while concealing the automatic window shades.
The kitchen features dark walnut cabinets and engineered quartz countertops. The gas fireplace surround is made of a synthetic marble that is just ΒΌ inch thick and much lighter than stone, making it easier to install in a high-rise condo unit.
