Backyard Oasis

Our clients, whose house we had remodeled several years ago, wanted to transform their thin strip of an urban backyard into the closest of getaways, with a pergola, spa, and fire pit.

We collaborated closely with Graham Baba Architects to transform the backyard. The project was completed, start to finish and with all safety protocols in place, during the recent pandemic.

The pergola is built with clear cedar and is covered with a glass canopy to extend the opportunity for outdoor living across the seasons. Dropped lighting fixtures from Niteo Lighting provide an intimate nighttime experience; the sparkling bulbs create the effect that you’re looking up at the stars. The spaces under the pergola are shielded from the alley by an integrated cedar privacy fence.

The built-in seating area includes a TV with a custom-built sliding cover. Drapery softens the feel of the pergola and allows for greater privacy and some protection from the elements in colder weather.
