This attentive remodel to a waterfront home in Medina focused on two hardworking spaces: the kitchen and the primary bath, along with a storage space adjacent to each – a classic butler’s pantry off the kitchen and a generous walk-in closet off the primary bath.
The existing range and range hood were in the middle of the kitchen; moving them to a side wall opens up the space and makes it feel larger and brighter. Unencumbered by a hood above, the island is more amenable to preparing food or pulling up a chair for a bite to eat. The remodeled butler’s pantry elegantly stores and displays china and glassware while providing desk space off the kitchen.
In the primary bath, a vanity that feels like a freestanding furniture piece combines with the freestanding tub to create an open feel. New floor and shower tile keeps the space light. The existing walk-in closet had floor-to-ceiling cabinets that made it feel cramped. New cabinetry and a center island allows the closet to feel more like a room.
The connection between the kitchen and adjacent dining room and family room is accomplished by maintaining interior views between the spaces; through refinished wood floors that continue from one space to the next; and also by substantial square columns in the living room that are echoed in the thickness of the crown molding and trim in the kitchen.
